Political Accommodation and Reconciliation in Somalia
The Netherlands Foreign Ministry has announced a 5-year, €6.75 million program regarding political accommodation and reconciliation in Somalia. The lead partner is the US-based Conflict Dynamics International (CDI), which has several years of experience working in Somalia. CDI are working with the Forum of Federations and the Somali Youth Development Network (SOYDEN). The program links two high-level outcomes: (1) local peace and reconciliation, managed largely by SOYDEN and CDI, and (2) developing a federal system for political accommodation. The latter will include (a) high-level technical assistance and dialogue for official constitutional, legal and institutional design processes (mainly related to distribution of powers); (b) broader public discourse; and (c) developing and strengthening IGR.
